Brief Summary:

A case history is presented for a high efficiency liquid / liquid coalescer system used to remove py-gas from quench water at Naphtachimie, France. Details on the mechanism of liquid / liquid coalescer technology are explained and the resultant process benefits are quantified in terms of steam savings, reduced fouling maintenance, and lowered environmental concerns. Savings of $300 K per year were realized with a payback period of less than one year for the investment in the coalescer technology.
