Vivid™ 170 Nitrocellulose Membrane

Nitrocellulose membranes are the heart of lateral flow assays and require highly consistent measurements for both wick rate and thickness. Variations in both thickness and wick rates can have detrimental effects to assay sensitivity, reproducibility, and reagent consumption. We are proud to introduce our newest membrane for lateral flow diagnostics, the Vivid 170 nitrocellulose membrane. At Pall, we understand the key consistency measures effecting lateral flow assay development and test strip manufacture and have developed our membrane with tight Coefficients of Variation (CV’s) for the critical membrane parameters. We have demonstrated CV’s of 5% on thickness and 10% for wick rates and protein binding. All of the consistency performance measures evaluated fall within a +/-3 sigma interval indicating a capable and robust manufacturing process. These tight consistency measurements result in highly sensitive membrane even at dilute concentrations of target analytes.

Vivid nitrocellulose membrane is cast on a clear polyester backing without the use of adhesives which can leach into the membrane and impede the performance of the assay. When cast, nitrocellulose membranes traditionally lack the tensile strength needed for large scale manufacturing. The polyester backing provides rigidity and ease of handling of the membrane. The crisp white nature of the membrane results in clear sharp capture lines with minimal background resulting in improved visualization of assay results.
