Bioreactors and Microreactors

Microbioreactors for Early
Stage Process Development

Once a candidate biotechnology drug molecule has been identified and selected for progression to safety testing and clinical trials, the process developer must begin the task of adapting a laboratory scale expression system to the large scale production environment of fully controlled bioreactors.  This task has traditionally begun with establishment of shake flask cultures, with limited monitoring and no control of reactor conditions beyond incubator temperature, incubator ambient gas mix, and rate of agitation. The use of shake flask technology is an attempt to increase the odds of success by expanding throughput, even though the endpoints (cell growth rate, cell density, product yield) may change dramatically under the controlled process conditions of the bioreactor.

Pall Micro-24 technology allows process developers to break out from the limitations of the shake flask. In a convenient, disposable format, the Micro-24 system offers superior ease-of-use benefits, and  provides fully independent monitoring and control of process conditions in each of the 10 ml microreactors on the 24 well disposable cassettes. Independent control of each microreactor produces results easily scalable to larger reactors, dramatically decreasing process development time, and the 24 well format creates a greater than 20 fold increase in throughput, achieved at less than half the cost of work done at bench reactor scale

Pall Products for Bioreactors and Upstream Unit Operations

Biotech process development successes over the last two decades have led to increasing cell titers and higher cell-specific productivities, resulting in increasingly valuable production batches. Pall has created technologies that simplify upstream operations, reducing risk of contamination and process failure, and protecting the value of upstream products during production and processing.

Allegro™ Single-use Biocontainer Systems

Allegro Single-use Biocontainer SystemsSingle-use technology has proven itself as a viable alternative solution over stainless steel systems in upstream operations, by reducing risk of cross contamination, eliminating the time and costs of cleaning and cleaning validation, enhancing operator safety,  and reducing the capital investment required for biotechnology start up operations. Learn more about the benefits of Pall Allegro
Biocontainer Systems.

Kleenpak™ Sterile Connectors

Kleenpak Sterile ConnectorsPall Kleenpak sterile connectors are the most widely used technology for making easy, secure sterile connections of two fluid pathways in an upstream operations environment , providing operational simplicity, flexibility and maximum convenience, with maximum assurance of sterility.
