Oenoflow™ XL-E Series Maintains Highest Wine Quality
East Hills, NY (May 8, 2009) – Pall Corporation today announced the addition of the XL-E Series to its Oenoflow family of crossflow filtration systems that are currently operating successfully in more than 600 wineries worldwide. Fully automated Oenoflow XL-E systems are available with one or two hollow-fiber modules, providing throughputs ranging from 10 to 30 hectoliters (265 to 800 gallons) per hour. The systems offer a single-step, post-fermentation replacement of the traditional DE and sheet filter operations employed in many wineries.
The Oenoflow system’s polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes have a high mechanical strength and excellent chemical resistance, enabling increased productivity and repeated exposure to aggressive cleaning regimes. The high-flow modules feature at least twice the filter area (21.5 square meters) of other competitive hollow-fiber modules, resulting in longer filtration runs, increased performance, and a more compact footprint.
Additionally, the Oenoflow XL-E modules comply with specific regulatory standards for products coming into contact with foodstuffs, including the EU 2002/72/EC requirements for plastic materials and the FDA requirements in 21CFR 170 -190, enabling wineries to maintain high manufacturing standards.
The Oenoflow XL-E system offers wineries flexibility and easy integration into any wine process. With user-friendly software and cycle programming capability, the filtration, concentration and cleaning sequences can be chained together, enabling long periods of unattended operation. The on-board process tank can be used for concentration during production or as a cleaning tank for water and chemicals. The process tank eliminates the need to rack prior to filtration, resulting in reduced wine movement, less labor, and operation independent of the winery conditions. The external bleed option provides the flexibility to re-circulate back to customers’ feed tanks.
With the Oenoflow XL-E system, small- and mid-sized wineries can benefit from Pall’s expertise in crossflow filtration of wine, hollow-fiber membranes, and process design to reduce operating costs while maintaining the highest wine quality.
