Streamline Processes
Adapting to changes in product inventory needs can be challenging. The universal processing conditions of the Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter gives you the FLEXIBILITY …
- To meet product inventory needs by accommodating hard or soft spins for plasma or platelet/plasma processing.
The Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter can filter red cells prepared from both hard and soft spins under any storage condition (warm or cold). This allows the flexibility to change production to produce platelets or platelet/plasma as needed.
- In the timing for filtration – up to 72 hours when stored at 1-6 ºC.
Blood collected in the Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter can be stored up to 72 hours at 1-6 ºC before filtration, allowing greater flexibility for component staff scheduling. For example, units arriving late on Friday can be processed on Monday reducing the need for Saturday filtration staffing.
Dockable red cells systems require additional labor due to rework. Time studies have shown that hands-on-tech time for dockable systems is 6 minutes per unit compared to 2.5 minutes with the Leukotrap RC System. A unit of blood is handled approximately 7 times with the use of dockable systems. This additional handling can increase the chance for production losses due to mislabeling and contamination from incomplete sterile connection welds. This means you can improve EFFICIENCY with Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter because
- Two to 2.5 more units can be processed with the Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter for every one unit processed with a dockable system.
- In-line filtration processing can be easily integrated into the existing component workflow and can eliminate these types of production losses.
In addition material costs associated with sterile connection devices (wafers, equipment, and maintenance contract) and product overlabels can also be reduced.
Deliver High Quality Blood Products
No two donors are alike. Each unit of blood collected is a unique biological fluid with physiological differences. How blood is stored and handled during processing can also affect the quality of the final leukoreduced product. The RC2D Filter design increases the filtration surface area by 50% over single-sided filters which improves cGMPs and gives you better RELIABILITY
- With a consistent performance across a broad range of processing conditions resulting in lower WBC residuals with a tighter standard deviation and reduced filter plugging.
- With a greater than 90% RBC recovery.

Whether you need to maximize plasma yield or increase platelet availability, now you can collect all your whole blood donations in one system and produce leukoreduced RBC, platelets and non-leukoreduced plasma based on planned or emergent product needs.
The Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter may be the only WB collection system you need to provide you with the maximum flexibility to give you better PROFITABILITY from manual WB collections by
- Increasing your plasma yield and revenue by as much as 10% over WB in-line systems.
- Increasing your platelet availability by making non-leukoreduced platelets and processing them using the Acrodose PLus System to make value-added Acrodosesm Platelets.
Plasma Production
In order to maximize plasma yield, whole blood is centrifuged under harder spin conditions. In addition, the plasma is often expressed until the red cells begin to exit the main collection bag. The result – RBCs that have a high hematocrit that may cause filter plugging and/or slow flow when filtered.
The Leukotrap RC System with the RC2D Filter has been developed to provide more flexibility to handle RBCs prepared under extreme spin conditions which can increase your plasma yield and revenue by as much as 10% over WB in-line filtration systems.
Try the Estimated Plasma & Revenue Calculator
You will need the following values to use the calculator to obtain your estimated plasma yield & revenue.
- Total number of units collected annually by WB in-line systems that are used for plasma fractionation production.
- Price per liter of plasma for fractionation.
- Average plasma yield per unit in milliliters.

Platelet Production
Capitalize on the clinical benefits of single donor platelets with the availability of whole blood-derived platelets (WBDP).
With an aging population, increased surgeries, oncology patients, etc the demand for platelets continue to increase. Add to this the more restrictive donor acceptance criteria and it makes it more difficult to maintain an adequate platelet supply. Non-leukoreduced WBDPs can be made with Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter. These non-LR WBDPs can then be pooled and leukoreduced using the Acrodose PLus System producing a transfusion-ready, therapeutic dose of platelets that are clinically equivalent to a single donor platelet – the Acrodosesm Platelet.
