Pall Supports Biopharmaceutical Industry Evolution with New Technology Releases at INTERPHEX 2008
East Hills, NY (March 26, 2008) - - Speed to market, protection from pandemics and other biohazard threats, compliance, risk management, and product integrity — these top pharmaceutical industry concerns are expanding beyond the market and into mainstream consumer consciousness. As a result, pharmaceutical manufacturers are under increased pressure to put superior products on pharmacy shelves faster than ever before — while, at the same time, seeking new ways to ever more efficiently manage their own research, development and production costs.
At INTERPHEX 2008, Pall Corporation (NYSE: PLL) is launching several cutting-edge technologies to help pharmaceutical manufacturers predict the manufacturability of drugs at the early discovery stage, allowing them to invest in only the most promising drugs in the development pipeline. Pall’s new technologies also help manufacturers rapidly scale up production, protect integrity of their ingredients and their final product, and protect the health of pharmaceutical workers.
The company’s latest innovations for the biopharmaceutical market include:
- The PallSep™ Biotech Vibrating Membrane Filter (VMF). Available with membrane sizes of 0.2, 1 and 5 m2, the PallSep Biotech VMF opens opportunities for researchers and manufacturers to explore materials they wouldn’t have dreamed of using in the past for lack of a suitable filtration or other separation system. This expands the possibilities for new drug development by broadening the choices of raw materials available as product ingredients.
- Allegro™ 3D Biocontainers. Pall’s Allegro 3D biocontainers enable the company’s Allegro systems to serve all process levels. Constructed from the same film as the rest of Pall’s Allegro products, the 3D biocontainers enable rapid scale-up from small clinical batches to commercial-scale production without the downtime typically associated with film and product approval. This latest product launch further enhances the company’s ability to provide biopharmaceutical end users with customized, single-use systems that maximize product recovery and minimize the risk of contamination during high-volume processes.
- GBK Containment System for SUPRAcap™ Filter Capsules. This new system, which combines the benefits of Pall’s SUPRAcap encapsulated filter technology with its GBK flexible containment technology, revolutionizes the processing of potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) by providing safe, easy-to-use, flexible protection for filter change-outs — dramatically reducing the capital investment and downtime costs typically associated with this application. The GBK Containment System for SUPRAcap Filter Capsules is the first in the industry to use flexible containment to safely handle large-scale filter change-over in wet process applications.
- PRC Pre-Packed Columns and LRC Empty-Glass Columns. Pall’s new PRC pre-packed columns enable faster, more consistent screening of chromatography sorbents by eliminating the time- and cost-consuming performance inconsistencies associated with manually packed columns. Its new LRC empty-glass columns allow researchers and process developers to quickly and easily evaluate different sorbents early in the drug development process to obtain necessary scale-up data. These products, along with Pall’s Resolute® process columns, and comprehensive range of sorbents, provide complete solutions from development to commercial-scale production.
- T-Series Membrane Cassettes. Pall’s T-Series membrane cassettes for tangential flow filtration (TFF) offer superior usability and reliability across a broad range of pharmaceutical applications. They are optimized for outstanding mass transfer (higher flux), which can reduce processing times and improve yields. They also offer narrow tolerances for pressure drop (∆P) for high reproducibility. Available for processes between 0.5 and 20,000 L, the T-Series membrane cassettes are ideal for lab development, pilot and commercial scale production processes.
