Mark has twenty years of experience working with many of the world’s most respected drug manufacturers testing our technology to resolve manufacturing challenges and training operators to ensure trouble-free operation and compliance. Now in Marketing, he calls upon this knowledge and experience to provide context to our developing portfolio and to ensure all content and communications are clear and resonate with users’ real-world challenges. He is a keen dog walker and yachtsman and regularly explores the south coast of the UK by land and by sea.

Renaud holds a Masters of Science in Biotechnology and has applied this foundation throughout his 20 year tenure with us. Over much of this time Renaud has focused on the implementation of upstream technologies to help drug developers and manufacturers optimize bioreactor productivity. Now he now applies this knowledge and deep understanding of the bioprocessing challenges to create cost effective ‘end-to-end’ integrated bioprocessing solutions that help manufacturers simplify and accelerate their journey from process design to manufacturing readiness. Outside of work, Renaud enjoys spending time with his family and is a keen mountain biker.

Kaitlynn Bayne is an Application Scientist within the Scientific and Laboratory Services team. She has experience with cell culture, bioreactors, analytics and assay development. Kaitlynn obtained her Master’s Degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Michigan and has many years of laboratory experience including positions at the University of Michigan and with us. When she isn’t working, Kaitlynn enjoys attending trivia nights, playing dodgeball and being outdoors.

Senior Bioprocess Specialist, Scientific and Laboratory Services

 

Odette joined us in 2016 and is currently a Senior Bioprocess Specialist within the Scientific and Laboratory Services organization. She performs hands-on training at customer sites as well as scientific coaching. Her role is to support customers to help them optimize, scale-up and transfer processes to produce stem cells, viral vectors and virus vaccines for preclinical and clinical grade manufacturing. She has several years of experience within the vaccine industry including positions in both R&D and manufacturing groups at GSK Vaccines. Odette obtained her Master’s Degree in Biotechnology Engineering at Bordeaux Engineering Institute of Biotechnology in France. She spends most of her free time practicing a variety of different sports, including badminton, rock climbing and skiing.

Global Product Manager, Fluid Handling

 

Silke Bergheim-Pietza is a global product manager in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. She joined us in 2005, bringing a wealth of experience in the areas of sales, product management and marketing. In her current role as a group leader, Silke globally manages the fluid handling product segment, which contains mixer and storage applications as well as connectors and transfer sets. Prior to joining us, Silke worked as a global application manager with the industrial gas company Messer Griesheim Group. While her career began in applications engineering, she has extensive cross-functional expertise ranging from applications engineering to strategic account and marketing management. Silke holds a degree in chemical engineering from the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany. She enjoys horseback riding and walking with her dog.

Senior Director, Integrated Process Solutions

 

Dr Marc Bisschops is the Senior Director of Integrated Process Solutions. Marc leads the development of the regulatory support initiative for continuous bioprocessing. He is responsible for field support activities related to continuous bioprocessing, cell culture and single-use technologies. Marc is one of the leading scientists in this area. He has completed over 250 continuous chromatography and continuous downstream processing projects, authored 15+ continuous publications, and invented eight continuous bioprocessing patents. Marc won the Machevo Award (NLD) for Innovative Separation Equipment developed during PhD research, and is a guest lecturer at various post-graduate courses in Europe. Marc holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Delft University of Technology (NLD). Prior to joining us, Marc was CSO at Tarpon Biosystems, the company that developed the continuous chromatography technology. Marc held several scientific and management positions in process development departments in Batavia Biosciences, Xendo. Mark enjoys photography and visiting the theater with his four daughters, including two sets of identical twins.

Cell and Gene Therapy Technical Manager, EMEA

 

Emmanuelle has more than 13 years’ experience Biotechnology Process Development and GMP production. Highly skilled in the field of cell culture applications, she joined us first as a Bioprocess Specialist for the first four years. She then transitioned to the Bioreactor applications team, where she was Principal Bioreactor Specialist until recently. Prior to joining us she worked as a Biotech Process Sciences Upstream Process development engineer at Merck Serono for four years. She received her Biotechnology Engineer diploma from the former Ecole Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Luminy (now Polytech Marseille). Emmanuelle is a keen horse rider and enjoys competing in horse jumping competitions.

Joe has worked for us since 2014, and has over 15 years’ industry experience in the upstream space. Prior to his tenure with us, Joe held various cross functional roles in marketing, sales, technical applications, as well as a cell culture associate in a commercial manufacturing cGMP environment. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Rhode Island, Masters of Business administration from the University of New Haven, and Master of Science in Biotechnology from The Johns Hopkins University. Outside of work, Joe enjoys outdoor activities such as golfing and hiking, and walking his French bulldogs Gunther and Potato (named by his three children!)

Paul is a Senior Bioprocessing Specialist for the U.K. and Ireland and has been with us since 2016. He has many years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, working on the downstream purification and analysis of viral vectors, monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. His expertise is in the development and scale-up of lentiviral and AAV processes from benchtop to manufacturing scale for commercialization, using both adherent and suspension upstream processes.

Team Manager, Bioprocess Specialist EMEA, Scientific and Laboratory Services

 

 

Sabrina is based in Belgium and supports the Bioprocess Specialist Team in EMEA. She brings over ten years of experience as a Downstream Process Specialist on the Benelux area. She graduated from ULB university in Brussels with a PhD in Molecular Biology, after which she spent six years as a senior researcher in Immunology and Parasitology in Verona and Brussels laboratories. Her expertise is focused mainly on membrane chromatography and TFF technologies. Outside of work, she enjoys Stephen King’s books and hiking with her Great Dane dogs.

Roberto is a Technical Specialist, part of the Purification Team. Originally from Milan, Roberto joined us in 2013, he studied Chemistry at P. Carcano University and is currently studying Economy at Insubria University. He works on developing new process or supporting existing ones specifically on chromatography, depth filtration and tangential flow filtration, and previously was involved in our Validation Laboratories for two years. Roberto previously supported the Quality Assurance of a pharmaceutical company for two years during college study. In his spare time, he enjoys music events, skiing and playing basketball.

Bioprocess Knowledge Manager, Scientific and Laboratory Services

François started his career with us as a scientific lead on various process development projects, such as viral vaccines, gene therapy and exosomes. Today he supports our Accelerator℠ Process Development Services and R&D, as a Bioprocess Knowledge Manager. He holds a PhD in biochemistry from the de Duve Institute and University of Louvain (Belgium) and performed a post-doc at the Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH) in the field of structural biology and enzyme catalysis.

Senior Bioprocess Application Scientist

 

Dr Marie-Laure Collignon is a Senior Bioprocess Application Scientist for the cell culture technology team. For the last three years, she has been dedicated to training bioreactor customers, and providing advice on the transfer of their process into our bioreactor technology and process optimization. Marie-Laure holds a Master of Chemical Engineering from Liège University. Before joining us, she completed a PhD and a Post Doctorate at Liège University and University of Lorraine. She has many years experience studying the impacts of hydrodynamics inside stirred bioreactors into mammalian and stems cell cultures, which has allowed her to gain a broad range of bioreactor expertise. When she is not working, Marie-Laure enjoys spending time with her family and teaching scuba diving to new trainees in lakes in Belgium and the Mediterranean Sea.

Mike Collins has worked with us for over 30 years, starting as an apprentice. In this time, he has filled a number of positions in laboratory, engineering and applications-based roles in industries spanning hydraulics, aerospace, water, and food and beverage before moving to biotech, within which he has worked for more than 15 years. Mike relocated from the UK to the US some years ago and is currently a Senior R&D Manager for the Process R&D group, managing the US team focused on continuous bioprocessing and gene therapy. Mike is an avid sports fan (watching mainly these days) balancing this with a lively young family.

Stijn is a Senior Scientist with the with the SLS Aseptic group, where he fills the role of the European SME for virus filtration and the global SME for air filtration. He graduated from HoGhent university with a BSc in Medical Laboratory Technologies after which he spent seven years as a Lead Tech for a CRO company before joining us in 2008. Stijn started working in an inside sales position before making the switch to Scientific and Laboratory Services in 2012. Outside of work he enjoys like coaching football and reading.

Udara Dharmasiri is a Senior Scientist for the Process Development Services team. Udara has many years of extensive experience in molecular biology and analytical chemistry assay development, filtration process development and virus purification for clinical applications. Udara has a Ph.D. in Bioanalytical Chemistry from Louisiana State University and postdoctoral training in Immunology from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, US. Outside of work, Udara enjoys enjoys travel and sports.

Senior Principal Engineer Single-Use Technologies, Technical Communication and Regulatory Strategy

 

Patrick joined us in 2017 to provide expert technical support to our customers on single-use systems. At the end of 2018 he moved to the Technical Communication and Regulatory Strategy team, combining technical content with validation and regulatory perspectives. Before joining Pall, for over 10 years he led a global technical team in charge of developing and implementing single-use technologies at a global level in GSK Vaccines' commercial manufacturing operations, including critical sterile applications. He is the author or co-author of several articles, white papers, ASTM Standard and PDA Technical Reports related to single-use technologies. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bio-Process Systems Alliance (BPSA). Since 2012, he has participated in several single-use technology industry working groups of the BPSA, BioPhorum Operations Group (BPOG), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME BPE), ASTM International and the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA).

Kristin is the Commercial Development Manager for Gene Therapy in the Americas. She started her career at Merck in viral vaccine process development and manufacturing, holding various roles focused on process scale-up, optimization and cGMP production. She joined Pall in 2014 and has held the roles of Single-Use Specialist, Integrated Solutions Sales Manager and now Commercial Development Manager. Kristin holds a degree in chemical engineering from Colorado State University.

During this time, she has filled several positions within our Portsmouth, UK site in Quality, Engineering and Operations and is currently in the role of Site Lead and General Manager of the Portsmouth site. Dr Martin Glenz completed his PhD in Biochemical Cell Biology at the University Bielefeld, Germany and has been with us since 2007. He is member of a team of field support scientists responsible for the development, implementation and integration of continuous bioprocessing technologies. In his position, Martin has authored several book chapters and publications, presented on technology and industry advancements at different conferences and has an active role in industry groups in Europe. Over the years, he held several positions related to process development, technical field support and customer development, and led a team of Biopurification Process Specialists in Germany. Martin has established a significant track record in completing projects related to technology evaluations and continuous downstream processing. In addition, he is involved with the development of the regulatory support initiative for continuous bioprocessing. In his free time, Martin enjoys spending time with his family and plays keyboard in a rock band.

His work has been published in numerous scientific journals, and he has presented at many conferences. Clive holds a PhD in Genetics from the University of British Columbia. When not at work, Clive spends a lot of time singing in Welsh choruses and hiking the Welsh hills.

Senior Director, Regulatory and Validation Strategy

 

James is Senior Director of Regulatory and Validation Strategy, which includes responsibility for the characterization strategy to support the safe and successful end-user implementation of technologies enabling pharmaceutical manufacturing. He leads the BPSA initative on X-ray qualification for single-use disposables, the BioPhorum Community of Practice for Extractables and leachables and is an expert panel member for USP <665> and <1665>. He is also an active member of ASTM, ASME-BPE, PDA, ISPE and BPSA. Since joining us in 2008, James has led chemical and performance characterization of medical and biotech components, as well as relevant technical packages supporting regulatory filings. Prior to joining us, James served as professor of hematology at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where he directed the protein purification laboratory related to drug characterization and discovery. He enjoys coaching his daughters’ Lego Robotics team (NYC champions), reef tanking and biking.

Chris came to us after completing his Masters in Biochemical Engineering at University College London. In his first two years he focused on filter membrane research and development before transitioning to cell culture and bioprocess development. These experiences gave him a deep understanding of bioprocesses and the technologies used to generate and purify biologics. In his current position, Chris focuses on the development of upstream stages of monoclonal antibody and viral vector production processes. In his free time Chris enjoys powerlifting and rock climbing.

Aude joined the Process R&D team in 2016. She is based in UK (Harbourgate, Portsmouth) and she specializes in sterilizing-grade filtration. During the last few years, she has gained experience in the filtration of various molecules and complex fluids including high concentration mAbs and liposomes. Aude graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) with a Master in Chemical Engineering. Outside work, she mainly enjoys dancing as well as traveling around the world.

Since gaining his PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Nigel has many years of experience in Process R&D. Nigel has authored multiple publications and conference presentations demonstrating a deep understanding of virus filtration and general bioprocessing. He has directed this knowledge into helping us develop robust and effective new virus filters and many other products and applications. A Principal Engineer, Nigel has also recently taken on the role of Visiting Lecturer at University College, London. He is a keen footballer and plays weekly in a five-a-side team with colleagues and friends.

Claire Jarmey-Swan is responsible for the global product management of the sterile connector and disconnector product portfolio used in upstream, downstream and formulation and fill applications. She has over 20 years’ experience in the Life Sciences industry, holding positions of increasing responsibility in technical, marketing and product management. 

 

Claire holds a MBA from Southampton Business School, University of Southampton and a MSc in Microbiology from the University of Natal, South Africa. She has the status of C. Biol, MRSB (Chartered Biologist, Member of the Royal Society of Biology). Claire enjoys sailing, new cuisines and exploring new countries.

Terése Joseph is a Senior Scientist in in the Westborough, MA, US group supporting upstream and downstream cell culture specializing in cell biology and analytics. Her work includes 30 years of research experience in biopharma and biotech specializing in cell therapy from development stage to clinical studies. Her strengths include three-dimensional cell culture constructs for graft studies, media formulation, cell engineering, assay design and validation. She enjoys the networking that results from cross-training and collaborations. Terése received undergraduate degrees in cell biology, studied biochemistry and molecular biology at the graduate level at Boston University before matriculating into a Doctorate in Natural Medicine specializing in pharmacokinetic changes as a result of dysbiosis and effects on neurological signaling. When not at work, Terése enjoys yoga, craft beer, obstacle course runs, kayaking and hiking with her two teenage sons. She is enrolled in the Masters of Biotechnology Enterprise program at Johns Hopkins University.

Benedict provides analytics supports to various projects in the Research and Development by doing assay development and assay support. Prior to joining us, Benedict had many years of laboratory experience and worked at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology and Ajou University in South Korea. He received his Master of Science in Pharmacology from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the University of Arizona. He has had several scientific papers published and presented at numerous international conferences in his career. When he is not at work, Benedict enjoys cooking new meals with new recipes, watching new movies and reading articles with data.

Denis completed his PhD in Biology and Biotechnology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts and has been with us since 2017. He leads the scientific laboratory services team responsible for all field support activities related to continuous bioprocessing technologies and downstream automated solutions. Over the years, Denis held several scientific and management positions related to process development and early discovery research at contract research organizations as well as biopharma companies in the US. He has established a significant track record in completing projects related to drug discovery and continuous downstream processing. In addition, Denis is involved with the development of the regulatory support initiative for continuous bioprocessing. In his free time, Denis enjoys spending time with his family and teaching his two young daughters about nature and science.

Alexander is a bioprocess specialist as part of the Scientific and Laboratory Services team, with several years of experience in the industry. He works with clients (typically in process development) that have drugs in the pre-clinical and phase I stages. Focused on working mainly with downstream technologies, he supports studies/experiments within the fields of gene and cell therapy, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, vaccines and other molecules. Alexander received his Master’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Binghamton University, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester. When he is not working, Alexander enjoys playing soccer (and following other sports), exploring new music and traveling around the world.

Andrew Laskowski is the manager of the regional bioreactor field application team in the US and Western Hemisphere. He has been supporting our bioreactor and cell culture technology product portfolio in a scientific and technical capacity since 2013. Prior to joining us, Andrew worked in vaccine process development at Merck, antibody purification at Genentech and drug product formulation at Pfizer. Andrew holds biomedical and chemical engineering degrees from the University of Michigan, and in his free time, is an avid University of Michigan college sports fan.

Wayne has more than 20 years of combined experience in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical, R&D, and manufacturing industry. Together with double degrees in Chemistry, a PhD in Organic Chemistry and an MBA in Strategic and Operations management, he has broad experience in pharmaceutical synthetic chemistry unit operations, as well as biologics downstream processing. His previous tenure was as our Head of APAC (+China) technical support (MS&T). He was one of the founding board members of the PDA Singapore Chapter, and a member of the UK Chapter and life member of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC).

Marketing Manager

 

Pascal joined us in 2014 as a global product manager for the iCELLis® Bioreactors portfolio through the ATMI acquisition. In this role, he was responsible for the development and promotion of bioreactors used for viral vectors. Since March 2019, Pascal is now field Marketing Manager, interacting with Benelux and Nordics sales hubs. With over two decades’ experience working in cell culture, Pascal previously worked with Sartorius Stedim Biotech and Lonza as a global product manager for biotherapeutic media and buffers. Pascal has a degree in biochemistry from University de Liège. When he is not working, Pascal enjoys running and playing tennis, managing a tennis club and acting as secretary and competitions manager, plus spending time with his five children.

He joined us in July 2003 having previously worked for Whatman and has over 25 years’ experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, holding positions of increasing responsibility in research and development, technical management and product management. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester and an MBA from the Open University Business School, UK. He is a member of various professional bodies and academic and industry advisory groups. In his spare time, Peter takes country walks throughout the South Downs and enjoys modern jive.

Michelle holds cross-functional expertise in both technical and business aspects of filtration. She has worked in strategic product planning and product commercialization roles in the bioprocessing industry, identifying and solving valuable customer problems. In addition, she has years of experience developing filtration products from idea generation to product launch. Michelle holds a PhD degree in Chemistry and B.E. in Materials Science and Engineering. Prior to joining us, Michelle worked at Berkeley Lab and University of California, Berkeley, as a postdoctoral researcher.

Andrew brings many years of experience to us and is responsible for managing a team of bioreactor application scientists within the APAC region to support customers and commercial colleagues in upstream gene therapy, cell therapy and biologics applications. Prior to this, he managed a team of R&D scientists to provide cell culture media and process development services for customers. Andrew holds a PhD and BSc (Hons) from Murdoch University, Perth Australia. His research includes the investigation of the physiological importance of the proteins of interest of infectious and cancer diseases, completed as part of his postdoctoral fellowship, PhD and Honors degrees where he supervised PhD, honors and undergraduate students. Andrew has developed a patent and his work is published in several journals. When not working, Andrew enjoys fishing and family time.

Heather Mallory is a Senior Scientist in the Process Development Services team. Prior to this, she worked with monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. She has several years of experience working with viral vectors for gene therapy including AAV, adenovirus, syndbis virus and lentivirus. She studied Biochemistry at SUNY Albany and Boston College. When not at work, Heather spends a lot of time hiking mountains with her two children, running and listening to NPR.

Britta Manser is the European Manager for continuous bioprocessing in the Scientific and Laboratory Services group. Britta leads a team of field support scientists responsible for the development, implementation and integration of continuous bioprocessing technologies. In her position, she has authored several book chapters and publications, presented on technology and industry advancements at different conferences and has an active role in industry groups. Prior to joining us in 2016, Britta obtained a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from Zurich's University of Applied Sciences. In her free time, she enjoys trekking and skiing with friends and family in the Swiss Alps.

Dr. Aernout Martens is Global Product Manager, Virus Filtration. He holds a Master degree in Bioprocess Engineering and a PhD in Physical Chemistry. After his research on extracellular matrix ligand interactions, he started working with us in 2011 as a biopurification specialist, after which he specialized in virus filtration and in January 2016 became global product manager for the our virus filter portfolio - understanding the market needs and relaying them to the organization to create the products and tools that are really useful to pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing. When not at work, he enjoys rock climbing, music and spending time with family.

Dr Morven McAlister is the Global Senior Director of the Regulatory and Validation Consultancy team. She joined us in 2001 and has held various technical leadership roles in microbial contamination control and has extensive experience with sterile and virus filtration applications, including test design, qualification, regulatory, and processspecific filter validation support. She is currently involved in applying Quality by Design (QbD) principles to new process applications, product and method development, as well as supporting microbial risk mitigation practices for end-users. She received her PhD in Microbiology from the Queen's University of Belfast, and completed her postdoctoral research at the University of Arizona. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Daniel is the automation lead for the next generation of modular single-use bioprocessing skids. He has had a passion for automation and control systems since he began an Engineering Apprenticeship at a Bacardi Martini bottling facility in the late 1990s. Since then he has gone on to achieve a Bachelor of Engineering degree with the University of Portsmouth. Jeremy Rautenbach is an Account Manager within our Australia team. Jeremy has held numerous positions within media operations, product development and strategic marketing with us. Most recently, he was the Global Product Manager for the Integrated Solutions and the single-use bulk filling, tangential flow filtration and chromatography equipment portfolios. Through a combination of customer insight, product development and lifecycle management activities, Jeremy focused on delivering customer-centric process solutions to industrialize bioprocesses in a way that brings life-saving therapies to market faster. He holds an MS in mechanical engineering from the MIT School of Engineering and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. When not at work, Jeremy enjoys offshore fishing, sailing, and hiking with his family.

Prior to joining us, she managed government contracts on drug cardiotoxicity evaluation at the Stanford Research Institute. Benben holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Stony Brook University and has many years of experience in biotech. She has published over 18 articles in scientific journals and has been invited to present her work at many conferences. Dr Ruta Waghmare is Vice President of Scientific and Laboratory Services. She is passionate about using science and engineering to enable the development of life-enhancing drugs, and leads a team of around 300 scientific experts. Ruta previously held senior positions at Millipore-Sigma/Merck including Senior Director for Marketing and Sales, Director of Emerging Biotechnology, Regional Sales Manager, Head of Chromatography (Americas), and Group Manager for Process Development Sciences. Ruta completed her post-doctoral research at the NIH (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland) on protein purification and crystallization. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University. Ruta has co-authored over 65 publications and conference presentations. She also served as an officer (including Chair) for Manufacturing Sciences and Engineering section for AAPS (American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists) from 2012-17. In her spare time Ruta enjoys practicing yoga and is a qualified children’s yoga instructor.
