Dr. Mark Garvey is a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Microbiology and is currently the Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control for the Infection Prevention and Control Service at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB). Dr Garvey has worked in the field of Infection Control for over 9 years, he covers a strategic management position within Infection Control at UHB, working with the Trusts operational leads to help deliver the Infection Control service. Dr Garvey has more than 40 publications, including leading infection control journals such as the Journal of Hospital Infection and Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. Dr Garvey’s current research interests include water microbiology with a focus on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Mycobacterium chimaera and general Infection Prevention and Control issues from MRSA to Carbapenemase Producing Enterobacteriaceae.

Dr Michael Weinbren is a Consultant Clinical Microbiologist and Infection Control doctor currently based at King’s Mill Hospital, Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He was the Director of Infection Prevention and Control at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire during Europe’s largest PFI (private finance initiative) build in 2002-2006, which experienced Pseudomonas outbreaks on the neonatal and adult intensive care units (ICUs) and a Legionella contamination of the water system. Dr Weinbren is the Chair of the Water Working Party set up by the Healthcare Infection Society and was a member of the Working Party for HTM 04-01: ‘Safe water in healthcare premises’.
