Diagnostic Membranes for Sample Preparation

Increasingly, sample preparation is becoming an integral component to the performance of diagnostic assays. As the market expands beyond clinical diagnostics to areas such as veterinary, environmental, industrial and agricultural, the sample types are becoming more complex and are typically unfit for processing without a preparation step. Non-clinical samples can be loaded with dirt, debris and other particulates, all which must be removed so that a pure sample can be obtained for analysis. In addition to this, clinical samples may require a clean-up or complexity reduction step before analysis can occur.

Filtration is a well accepted sample preparation method because it can be easily integrated into a variety of assay schemes. At Pall, we have a broad portfolio of filter membranes designed for diagnostic sample preparation. From asymmetric membranes that efficiently remove particulate and deburden samples without compromising flow rates to our family of low binding clarification membranes  that purify samples without binding analytes of interest, we have a material to meet your preparation needs.

If your assay requires the removal of leukocytes to prevent contamination or for the isolation of leukocytes for nucleic acid harvest, our white blood cell removal media can be used. This media is a fibrous material that selectively isolates leukocytes while allowing the remaining cellular components of the blood sample to pass through the filter matrix. When selecting this material, it is important to consider the removal efficiencies (% removal) needed. A single pass through the filter matrix will not remove all leukocytes so multiple layers or steps may be needed.
