Case Study

Upgrading old, bulky and corroded filter housing to Athalon® hydraulic return line filters for easier servicing and improved system protection

Primary metal industrial manufacturer, Europe

Summary

One of Europe’s largest producers of steel reinforcements and other steel products delivers more than one million tonnes of finished product each year. Their facilities include a state-of-the-art melt shop and two production facilities: one for reinforcing products and wire rod, the other for merchant bar and light sections.

This large output puts strain on production processes meaning fluid management systems

and their maintenance are critical for maximum production levels.

Following the installation of the Athalon housings, the manufacturer’s engineers found it much easier and cleaner to change filters compared to their previous product. Since the installation, in addition to the improvement in the ease of filter servicing, the client’s hydraulic systems have achieved  an improved fluid cleanliness, with ISO 4406 cleanliness going from a dirty - /17/14 to a clean 14/13/12/. In addition, Athalon filter elements are lasting 2x longer than the filters previously used.
