Pall Solutions for Cold Brew Coffee
After brewing and extraction, a particle removal step is recommended to remove the remaining grounds. Given the typical broad particle size distribution and high dirt holding capacity, Pall’s bag filters are recommended as a cost effective option to lower the suspended solids and improve the efficiency of downstream processing steps.
Clarification
The purpose of clarification is to remove haze and reduce finer size coffee grounds. For small batch filtration, SUPRAdisc™ II filters are the lead solution. The depth media impregnated with DE provides an excellent combination of adsorption, surface and depth filtration for haze removal while the enclosed assembly minimizes product losses and oxidation.
For larger scale operations, Pall’s crossflow systems provide consistent and reliable quality at the lowest operating costs. The systems are fully automated with membrane regeneration and cleaning in situ to enable long filter membrane service life.
Microbial Stabilization
After clarification and prior to packaging, pre and final cartridge filters can be used as an alternative to pasteurization. Pall’s Fluorodyne® II filters are used extensively in the beverage industry to provide secure and reliable removal of spoilage microorganisms in a variety of applications.
These filters can be steamed in place (SIP) and hot water cleaned, without compromising their robustness or removal performance. Additionally, to confirm membrane filter performance, an integrity test can be executed both prior to and after completion of each filtration batch.
